Housing here spans several distinct eras, and each asks something different of a lighting job. Pre-1940 heritage homes and Art Deco buildings sit behind the village core, with mid-century and newer apartment blocks closer to the harbour foreshore.

Older stock usually means plaster ceilings and cornice work that wants a careful hand. Apartment blocks nearer the water tend to give easier, more open ceiling access instead.

Outdoor lighting has its own local wrinkle. Homes closer to Redleaf Beach and Steyne Park cop constant sea breeze off the harbour, which corrodes a cheap outdoor fitting faster than the same fixture would fail inland.

Weatherproof, corrosion-resistant gear from the start saves a repeat job in a couple of years.
